Lars Eriksson

Professor Industrial Design
Programme Manager Industrial Design (master)

Research

I have so far concentrated up on applied research projects towards SME with focus on the early stages of the product-development-process. The last few years I am engaged in the area of functional surfaces. Focus is on the characteristics of surfaces, like hardness/servity, lusture and texture, based on different applications mainly in the early stages of the product-development-process.

The goal is to create methods, both for quality- and quantity, to messure the user-experience of the product. The method is mainly based on tactile and visuelly experienced characteristics of surfaces nature/character/quality. I have passed a two-year course in research-tutoring at the nationell designresearchschool D&R and I am also assistent tutor of three candidates for the doctorate.

Lars Eriksson was born and grew up in Bromma just outside Stockholm 1964. 1994 he took an MFA in industrial design at Umeå Designcollage. After 11 years as a professional industrial designer he is today mainly active in teaching and research. He has been part of spreading knowledge about the designprocess by beeing chairman of a regional office for Svensk Form, Svensk Industridesign and have also produced 5 ½ hour programmes about the designprocess for swedish national television, SVT.

1997-2002 he was in charge of one of the mastereducations at the Designcollage in Umeå, 2002 Lars took the position as Senior Master in Design at Collage of Halmstad. 2006 he took the position as acting professor in industrial design at the Technical Collage in Jönköping and in september 2007 he got the position of Professor Emeritus.
