MMTC researchers won best paper award at International Symposium on Media Innovations

PhD candidate Joaquin Cestino and Professor Leona Achtenhagen at MMTC, won the 2016 Best Paper Award at the International Symposium on Media Innovations, which was held at Oslo, Norway in October 2016.

Authored by Joaquin Cestino and Leona Achtenhagen, the paper is entitled “From industrial ‘dopes’ to new industry pioneers? Legitimacy borrowing and institutional innovation in journalist entrepreneurs”.

It studies how journalist entrepreneurs use institutional components from their personal background as ingredients in their business ideas and activities that build legitimacy for specific stakeholders. This process can result in institutional emergence when these institutional components originate in different fields. This brings some implications to innovation policy in the news industry.
