Jönköping University best for work-based education… again

For the second year in a row, Jönköping University (JU) has received the highest grade when just over 1,000 students rated their work-based education (VFU). "The country's other higher education institutions should be inspired by how successfully Jönköping University sets up its students' VFU, together with healthcare employers," says Anja Basic, Chair of the Student Healthcare Association (Vårdförbundet).

For the seventh year, the Student Healthcare Association has conducted a survey of what students at 25 higher education institutions think about their VFU. And once again, JU is ranked as the best university for VFU by students who are studying on the nursing programme, the two biomedical analyst programmes that specialize in clinical physiology and laboratory medicine, and the X-ray nursing programme.

“Good quality VFU is based on good cooperation with both the region and municipalities, good relations with the business and a clear work placement structure that includes representatives from education and all areas of activity. It is important that everyone participants, and that includes both teachers, students and supervisors. We at the School of Health and Welfare are very grateful for this diploma, it shows that the work we put in gives results,” says Agneta Stenebrand, Associate Dean of Education at the School of Health and Welfare.

VFU is an important part of the education and to top the list for the second year in a row is a mark of quality and clear proof of JU’s successful collaboration with Region Jönköping County and the county's municipalities.

“It's great that the excellent work carried out for our VFU, which is not always so visible, is noticed. The placement in the ranking is a result of many people's commitment and good collaboration. Today's students will also be tomorrow's employees, so managing tasks such as this is a good investment for the future,” says Professor Staffan Hägg, Operations manager at Futurum, Region Jönköping County.

The survey also showed a downward national trend for the average rating of VFU, which fell to 4.38 on average from last year's 4.54. Many students state that on occasion they have been used as extra staff, reflected in a figure that rose from 46% (2021) to 81% (2022).
