Jönköping University successful in becoming a European University

Jönköping University (JU) and its partners in the EULiST alliance have been successful in an application to become a European University. The total sum awarded to the alliance by the European Union is just under SEK 180 million, of which Jönköping will receive SEK 20 million.

The European University Initiative (EUI) was developed by the European Union as a means of supporting diverse cooperation models between partner universities. Alliances are expected to lead the development of higher education in Europe. Jönköping University’s alliance within the EUI is called EULiST (European Universities Linking Society and Technology).

“Being recognised as part of a European University is a great achievement for Jönköping University and an important step in securing our position as a key educational institution within Europe. While there is much work ahead to prioritise areas in which we wish to collaborate and to align processes and procedures, being part of this initiative will open many doors for Jönköping University,” says Agneta Marell, President of JU.

“A major aim of the collaboration will be to develop educational and research initiatives which contribute to addressing social and global challenges,” says Nerrolyn Ramstrand, the President’s Advisor for Internationalization.

Throughout the Autumn, staff at JU will be invited to participate in information sessions related to the European University Initiative.
