The Research School of Health and Welfare is part of Jönköping University. The Research School has a broad approach to theories, methods and knowledge from different areas within the field of humanities and social sciences. 

Third-cycle subjects

The Research School of Health and Welfare has a transdisciplinary basis. As a doctoral student you can choose to deepen your knowledge in any of the following subjects:

Transdisciplinary efforts aim to provide an increased understanding of different subjects and professions within health and social care. In turn, this benefits the collaboration, and focuses on the needs of the individual or patient.

Degrees

This third-cycle education programme leads to a Degree of Licentiate of Philosophy,  or a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy within the specific subject. Doctoral students write their licentiate or doctoral thesis from a transdisciplinary perspective.

This third-cycle education programme includes courses at third-cycle education level totalling 30 credis for a licentiate degree and 60 credits for a doctorate degree. Furthermore, the doctoral student writes a licentiate thesis comprising 90 credits or a doctoral thesis comprising 180 credits.

Apply for the third-cycle education programme at the School of Health and Welfare

Anyone who wants to become a doctoral student at the Research School of Health and Welfare, can apply in two different ways:

  1. The prospective doctoral student applies for one of the advertised doctoral positions at the School of Health and Welfare, following the instructions stated in the advertisement.
  2. The prospective doctoral student has a certificate of private funding, corresponding to two or four years of full-time third-cycle education for licentiate degree or doctor degree from external research funding. The main supervisor and the prospective doctoral student contact the director of the research school for a meeting.
